Restoring Immediate Dentures Chairside with Rodin® Soft Reline

Clinician: Dr. Russell Schafer, DDS – NOLA Dentures and General Dentistry

When a patient returned just two weeks after receiving upper and lower immediate dentures—fabricated using Rodin® Denture Base 2.0 and Sculpture 2.0 teeth—the rapid post-extraction healing caused poor adaptation and discomfort, especially in the lower arch. With no time to send the prosthetics to the lab, Dr. Russell Schafer turned to a fully chairside solution using Rodin® Soft Reline.

This universal silicone-based reline material proved ideal for resolving adaptation issues in a single visit, restoring comfort, stability, and patient satisfaction without lab support.

Digital Workflow Overview:

1. Surface Preparation

Both dentures were roughened and beveled along the intaglio and flange edges to ensure strong mechanical retention. The surfaces were polished with a brown wheel to create an ideal bonding surface.

2. Cleaning and Priming

The dentures were cleaned and dried. VPS Primer was then applied to all intaglio surfaces and allowed to dry per IFU guidelines.

3. Application of Soft Reline

Rodin Soft Reline was dispensed directly from the automix cartridge and seated intraorally for five minutes of functional adaptation.

4. Trimming and Fit Adjustment

After intraoral setting, the dentures were removed, and excess material was trimmed. The prostheses were allowed to fully set extraorally before final insertion.

Clinical Outcome:

The workflow restored comfort and function to both arches. The lower denture, previously unstable and uncomfortable, seated securely and bonded well with the printed base. The patient reported immediate comfort, and the tasteless, odor-free formulation enhanced the clinical experience.

“It’s easy to apply and has held up well in my patients’ mouths. I like that it bonds to multiple materials, so I can stock less inventory and avoid waste.”
— Dr. Russell Schafer

TL;DR

Rodin® Denture Base 2.0 leads in all mechanical categories—flexural strength, fracture toughness, and energy absorption—making it the clear choice for long-lasting, high-strength removable prosthetics. Whether full-arch or implant-supported, it outperforms conventional and printed alternatives with the efficiency and flexibility of 3D printing.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use Glaze N2-Free as a Bonding Layer
Apply Glaze N2-Free between denture teeth and base before curing to enhance adhesion and eliminate the tacky oxygen inhibition layer.
  • Seal the Final Surface with Glaze N2-Free After finishing Denture Base 2.0, apply a thin coat of Glaze N2-Free for a clean, sealed surface—no polishing or nitrogen needed.
  • Prep the Surface for Relines
For optimal bonding with Soft Reline, roughen the intaglio surface using the included polishing tools, then apply the universal primer.
