How does a Smaller Build Platform Increase Printing Speed?
This is a very good question, because at first glance - it’s the same layer thickness, the same resin, the same 3D printer - how is it possible that the size of the build platform impacts the printing speed so much that some 3D prints are finished in up to less than 50% of the time?
There are three main factors influencing the printing speed of your printer:
- Peeling distance,
- Waiting time,
- Curing time
As the build platform is pushed into the vat, the resin is set into motion and is being displaced by the build platform. Naturally, a larger surface area will have a greater impact on the resin, and vice versa, a smaller surface area will have less impact.
The concept is basically the same as when you put your hand in a cup of water or just a finger - your hand is more likely to make greater waves than just your finger.
Why Does Resin Movement Matter?
As the build platform dips down and the printer prepares for curing - the waiting time is the time it requires for the resin to “settle” after the build platform stirred it up. If the waiting time isn’t sufficiently long, it may lead to uneven curing and may result in less accurate prints.
A large build platform will thus require a longer “resin settling” time than a small build platform. That’s how we at Ackuretta were able to optimize the printing speed with the medium and small build platform.
As this process is repeated over 100 times, the waiting time makes up a significant portion of the printing speed. By reducing this waiting period, we were able to achieve significantly higher printing speeds.
Make your 3D printer the fastest dental 3D printer on the market by adding the new build platforms for SOL. Achieve highly accurate and beautiful prints with each time - wasting zero time on fiddling, waiting up to 60% less.
